Boers

Our breeding goats are registered with the ABGA. We started breeding Boers in 2019, after falling in love with love with a pair of wethers. We use artificial insemination to breed our does, to avoid keeping a buck on the property and to keep our genetics open. This also allows us to bring in more genetics to improve our herd. At this time we are not showing, but we hope to start in the near future. All animals are tested annually and free of CAE, CL, and Johne's. Breeding does are additionally tested for Q fever.

Onacounna Tank Girl

Picture
Tank is one of two founding does I bought to start breeding Boers. Even as a percentage doe, she has some nice qualities. Her neck is long and graceful, she has good length of body and width, and nice bone. Her bite, pigment, and feet are good, with 2x2 correct teats. Tank has kidded twice, unassisted both times, with excellent mothering skills. She's a heavy milk producing, keeping her kids fed and growing. In breeding her, I am working increase the percentage of her kids, while improving muscle and balance.

Violet Horizons Elektra Cowgirl

Picture
Cowgirl is a fullblood doe, and daughter to one of the two does I bought to start breeding boers. She is wide and thick, with a good shoulder and rump assembly. Her bite, pigment and feet are good, with 2x2 correct teats. She is a little short bodied and butt high, a trait she inherited from her dam. Her first kidding was unassisted, and she exhibited excellent mothering. In breeding her I am maintaining fullblood status while working to add length and maintain good muscle and width.

Violet Horizons Number Four

Picture
"Four Socks", as she is affectionately called, is from my first percentage breeding. She is very thick and wide. In breeding her, I am working to increase her percentage, as well as improve length of body while maintaining width and good muscle. She has a  good bite, as well as good pigment and feet, and 1x1 teats. As an added bonus, she has color behind her.  My first attempt to breed Four Socks was unsuccessful, due to less than ideal anatomy for AI. I am hoping I'll have kids from her in the 2024 season.

Violet Horizons Sara Lance

Picture
Sara is the product of one of my first attempts at AI. She was born in a litter of triplets and is maturing very nicely. She shows nice length of body, and improvement from her dam. She is also wide and nicely muscled, even in pasture condition. She has good bite, pigment, and feet, and 2x2 teats. In breeding her, I'll be choosing a stud to further improve her length of body, width, and muscle.

Violet Horizons Black Canary

Picture
Canary is the product of one of my first attempts at AI. She is a little short in body, but shows decent width. She has a good bite and feet, with excellent pigment, and 2x2 teats. In breeding her, I'll be choosing a stud to improve length of body, width, and muscle. I would also like to see some thicker bone in her kids.

Violet Horizons Kara Zor-el

Picture
Kara is the product of one of my first attempts at AI. She inherited a feminine look from her dam, as well as a little butt high from her great-granddam. In breeding her, I will be choose a stud to improve her length of body, levelness, and muscle. She has a good bite, pigment, and feet, and 1x1 teats.
